Now, Kagodu criticises Siddu govt

Last Updated 29 October 2014, 20:08 IST

Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa criticised the style of functioning of the Siddaramaiah-led government in the State, during a programme organised in memory of freedom fighter and frontline leader of the Kagodu movement, the late H Ganapatiyappa, at Vadnal village in the taluk on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Though I have told the government on several times about the need to amend Section 192 (A) of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, it is turning a blind eye to the issue. The officials should guide the government to protect the interests of the farming community rather than misguiding it in the name of court.”

Taking exception to the style of functioning of the officials, he said that they had mentioned the court order in eviction notices issued to farmers who had encroached upon revenue land for farming purposes.

“Are they officials of the government or the court,” he asked. Bureaucrats should understand that the judiciary has the power only to implement and review the laws framed by the government. It has no power to frame laws,” he said, adding that the officials were displacing the farmers in the name of court. This is tarnishing the image of the governmentm, he said.

Referring to the issue of ‘bagair hukum’ cultivators, he said bagair hukum committees had not been formed in many taluks across the State. Besides, there has been no progress in the issue pertaining to the allotment of land to those cultivating forest land. “Is this administration?” he  questioned.
