JOIN USTwo men wearing helmets tried to loot cash from an ATM kiosk after threatening the security guard near Hegganahalli under Rajagopalanagar police limits on Sunday morning.
According to police, around 1.30 am, the two men approached the ATM kiosk of Axis Bank and found the security guard Ganganna, 58, a resident of Kudur, sleeping.
They woke him up and brandished an iron rod and threatened him not to raise an alarm. Ganganna, who was in a state of shock, stayed quiet.
They pulled him inside the kiosk and made him sit in a corner. They told him that they would not harm him, if he stays quiet.
The intruders then rolled the shutter down and tried to break open the kiosk with the help of the iron rod they were carrying.
They took more than 20 minutes but could not remove cash and the kiosk was left damaged. After realising that the noise created by them would grab public attention, they fled the spot.
A senior police officer, who visited the spot said: “The miscreants had covered their faces with helmets and this has made it difficult for us to identify them despite examining the CCTV footage. The kiosk also had an alarm bell but the wires were snapped and the police are trying to find out if the miscreants cut them or was it already damaged.”
The security guard claimed that the miscreants thrashed him up and he could not retaliate as he was old and weak.
No security violations
The police are also checking if there are any other CCTV footage recorded from the neighbouring shops or houses. The kiosk had followed the guidelines issued by the police department and had installed the required number of CCTV cameras and an alarm bell.
It seems that the duo did not have the intention of looting the kiosk, as they had not carried any tool or machinery except for a small iron rod. But they have completely damaged the machine. The guard claimed that they were conversing in Kannada, added the officer.
