Boundary row: State to finalise stand today

Last Updated 02 November 2014, 19:57 IST

Having scored a point over Maharashtra by succeeding in getting the name of Belgaum changed to Belagavi, the State government is now gearing up to fight the legal battle over the boundary issue with the neighbouring state in the Supreme Court.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is holding a meeting with legal experts on Monday at his home office “Krishna” in Bangalore on a petition filed by Maharashtra staking claim over 814 villages in Karnataka.

The State government had been toying with the idea of filing a review petition before the Supreme Court seeking a relook into its decision to appoint a court commissioner to record evidence on Maharashtra’s petition. The State’s stand is likely to be finalised on Monday.

Karnataka recently scored a point over Maharashtra with the Centre giving its nod for the change of name of Belgaum to Belagavi, along with 11 other cities, despite stiff opposition by the neighbouring state.
