Iranians win top prizes in caricature contest

The Institute announced the results of the National and International Manmohan Singh-Sonia Gandhi Caricature contest here. The competition was held in collaboration with the Sri V R Deshpande Trust and received 625 entries from countries all over the world.

A jury of three members selected the six best caricatures under various sections, including original and digital images sent by email.

The first price for the Manmohan Singh caricature was bagged by Vahid Jafari followed by Salam Mohammadi, both hailing from Iran. The first prize for the Sonia Gandhi Caricature Contest was awarded to B N Biswal from Nagpur, followed by Satish Sringeri from Bangalore.

The first and second prizes consisted of cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively. Justice M N Venkatachalaiah, former Chief Justice of India Prof V G Andani, artist Sri Keshav were on jury.

Over 1,500 caricatures will be exhibited in Chitrakala Parishath from January 15 to 22.
