Anirban claims title

Anirban Roy Choudhary of South Western Railway defeated Akshay Mahanta of Canara bank in a closely fought contest to win the men’s singles title in the M S Ramaiah Memorial State-ranking table tennis tournament on Monday.

Anirban posted a 9-11, 11-6, 4-11, 7-11, 16-14, 11-7, 13-11 verdict over a fighting Akshay in the final. Akshay won the Youth boys’ title defeating Sushmith R B 11-9, 11-8, 11-7, 4-11, 9-11, 11-8.

Swetha defeated Gayathri Tankasali 11-4, 11-8, 6-11, 11-4, 14-16, 11-4 to win the women’s title.

Gayathri, who had won two titles earlier, claimed the Youth girls’ title as well to round off a successful tournament. She defeated Samyukta 11-8, 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 in the final.
