A 20-year-old BPO employee was killed and three others injured when an office cab they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck in south Delhi’s Nehru Place during the wee hours of Tuesday.

The injured, including two of the dead man’s colleagues and the driver, have been admitted to the AIIMS trauma centre where they are undergoing treatment.

The cab driver told police that he lost control of his vehicle while trying to save a pedestrian who suddenly appeared on the road.

The pedestrian escaped unharmed. “The accident took place about 2.30 am. The cab was headed to Chirag Dilli to drop one of its occupants after picking them up from their Noida office. The accident took place near a bus stop in Nehru Place,” said a police officer to this newspaper.

Police said the impact of the crash was such that the front half of the Tata Indica was totally damaged. Parts of the taxi had to be cut open to rescue the injured.

The victim, Vignesh Mahesh, was sitting besides the driver and he suffered serious injuries to his head.

He was declared brought dead at the hospital. The other injured are Sachin Kumar, Saurabh Roy and the driver Sunil.

The driver has been booked for causing death by negligence.

The truck driver, meanwhile, has been charged with illegal parking.
He has claimed he parked his vehicle on the roadside as he was waiting for a green signal from the Metro staff.

The truck was loaded with steel beams meant for a nearby Delhi Metro construction site.

17 policemen injured in mishap

Seventeen policemen were injured when a truck carrying them overturned in south Delhi’s Hauz Khas on Tuesday morning, reports DHNS.

They were all rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre where most of them were discharged after medication. But two of them are still admitted there and they are out of danger.

Over 20 policemen were headed to their duty at Karbala for Muharram procession.
They were all posted at South Campus police station.

The driver has claimed that the vehicle’s brakes failed while he was trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle ahead. The vehicle subsequently overturned.
