North-East test for Chennaiyin

Football fans in Chennai will be in for a mouth watering clash when the home side Chennaiyin FC lock horns with North East United FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.

Placed second on the table, Chennai will look to continue their fine form in the tournament as they look to continue their unbeaten home run, which includes two wins and a draw. But the Marco Materazzi-led side are aware of the threat that the boys from the north east pose.

“They are a very talented side but our coaches have done the homework so we would look to be at our best and get the three points tomorrow,” said Gouramangi Singh.

A traditional center back, the Indian international was deployed on the flanks by Materazzi in the previous game. “Yes all my life I have played in central defence but I don't mind doing a job for the team in other positions also. I am getting used to playing in wide roles,” he added.

The team has been upbeat since their draw against the table toppers Atletico de Kolkata, where a 90th minute penalty helped them to secure a point. “The mood is very positive as we came back well to earn a point against Atletico Kolkata. Now we are aiming for maximum points at home tomorrow,” said Vivek Nagul, assistant coach, Chenaiyin FC.
