Vijayapura mayor's nephew shot dead

Fayaz Mushriff, 37, nephew of Vijayapura mayor, Sajjade Peera Mushriff, was killed after miscreants, who came in a car, fired at him near Dhatri Masjid in the heart of the city on Friday night.

Fayaz, who was found lying in a pool of blood, breathed his last at the Yashodhara Hospital of Solapur, Maharashtra, at 5 am on Saturday. He was first taken to nearby Dhanwantari Hospital  and then to BLDE Hospital for treatment. He was later shifted to the private hospital in Solapur where he succumbed to injuries.

According to additional SP Jeenendra Khangavi, the miscreants, who fired four bullets at Fayaz, fled the scene after the act.  The police have collected four empty caps of bullets from the spot. Fayaz was on his way on his two-wheeler when he was attacked.

In a complaint, Mainuddin Mushriff, paternal uncle of Fayaz, has named Asif Inamdar and nine of his accomplices to be behind the murder due to an old enmity.

The news of the murder spread like a wild fire in the city and most of the shops and business establishments downed their shutters in anticipation of trouble.

Vijayapura tahasidar has clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in the City till Sunday morning.
