The meeting convened by Hassan Urban Development Authority (HUDA) on Monday, decided to earmark 14 acres of ‘Gomaala’ land for the district administration, out of around 400 acres that has been allotted to develop S M Krishna Nagar.

The government had sanctioned Rs 255 crore for the development of S M Krishna Nagar and a meeting was held at HUDA, in the city, on Monday to deliberate on developing the land.

But, Deputy Commissioner V Anbu Kumar submitted a proposal seeking permission from HUDA to earmark 14 acres of land for the district administration to be utilised in future. This was also recommended by MLA H S Prakash and MLC Patel Shivaram, who attended the meeting.

Future plan
It was explained that though there was no need for the land for the district administration immediately, it may be required when the population crossed more than 10 lakh in the next few years. At that juncture, it would become nearly impossible to identify a land at a prime place, closer to the road and lake.

Some private organisations too had applied seeking the Gomaala land. Instead of giving the land to private parties, it should be allotted to government departments, which do not have own buildings. There are more than 15 departments operating from rented buildings in the city.

Finally, the meeting decided to set aside lands for the district administration. Following this, it was decided to hold a meeting next Tuesday to discuss the tender process.

The Deputy Commissioner also suggested that a Lake Development Authority be constituted for the development of Hunasinakere and Satyamangala lakes, on the occasion.
