Illegal sand mining rampant in State: KSE

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa on Monday charged that there was rampant illegal sand mining in the State and wondered why the State government has remained “silent spectator”.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, Eshwarappa said the government should immediately order a probe into illegal sand mining and put an end to the menace.

Besides, the government should take steps to ensure adequate availability of sand in the market at affordable rates. At present, sand is being sold at Rs 30,000 per load, he pointed out.

Eshwarappa released a copy of a first information report (FIR) in a Lokayukta trap case under the Prevention of Corruption Act in which Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa’s son Sunil Bose has been named the second accused.

When reporters sought to know why he was releasing the FIR filed in May 2010 now,  the former deputy chief minister said that he had promised in his previous press conference that he would provide copies of the FIR and was now doing so.

He said the BJP core committee would meet on November 13 in Bengaluru.
