'UP people work less when in state', says Ram Naik

Stoking up another controversy, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Monday said the people of UP, while being in the state do not ‘work as much as they do while being in Mumbai’.

“I must say that the people of the state do not work as much as they do in Mumbai when they are in UP,” Naik said at a function in Bareilly.

Naik said the people of the state will have to ‘work more’ if the state was to progress.

“The people will haveto work also along with the government if the state has to develop,” he said.

The Governor said he knows that some will feel offended by his remarks.
Naik also said the law and order situation in the state needed further improvement.
SP’s wrath

The UP governor has earned the wrath of the ruling Samajwadi Party for his repeated criticism of the law and order situation in the state.

Recently, Naik had held a press conference here and had given an account of his tenure as Governor.

“The law and order situation in UP needs to be improved,” he had said. The SP leaders and ministers, during the recently concluded national convention of the party in Lucknow, had attacked Naik for criticising the government on the law and order issue.

The SP leaders said the Governor was ‘interfering’ with the functioning of the government and the party had even adopted a resolution to criticise the interference.

A few days ago, Naik had hosted a dinner for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh functionaries at Rajbhavan. The RSS leaders were in Lucknow to participate in a three-day meeting of the Sangh. The SP had then also criticised the Governor.
