Anjappar, located in Indiranagar, opened a while back after a very successful trial in Chennai. The eatery dishes out the authentic taste of Tamil Nadu.

It is popular for its chicken biryani, ‘koli kulambu’, natti chicken gravy and Chettinad chicken masala.

They also have an exotic range of sea food with crabs and prawns as well.

Saravanan, manager of Anjappar, informs, “These dishes may be available in one form or the other here, but I am pretty sure the real taste is not there. The meat is sourced from here but the ingredients are all ground and brought from Chennai. The meat is fresh and nothing is stored and used beyond a certain time.”

The eatery is packed at lunch and dinner time, thanks to the many companies located in the vicinity, and the families who have almost become regulars.

It’s also the ambience and warmth that brings people back. Saravanan says that all the dishes are cooked in authentic style.

“The meat is cooked till it is soft and mixed well with the masala, which has the right amount of ingredients. The food is spicy but it is changed according to people’s requirement,” he states.

The ‘thali’ at lunch is fast-moving. It is not only reasonably price but offers great variety in non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes.

“The ‘kootu’ is changed everyday just to break the monotony. There’s always ‘sambar’, ‘rasam’ and in the non-vegetarian ‘thali’ we offer the gravy of chicken, mutton and fish curry without the pieces. All this in addition the rice and ‘roti’,” he adds.

Another speciality of this place is that chicken and fish is cooked in both tandoor and barbecue style in their open kitchen made especially for the purpose.

“The open kitchen concept is to allow people to see how  tandoor and barbecue is being made. In fact, we grill a king fish until it is soft and serve it in full or cut it into pieces,” sums up Saravanan.

The eatery is located at 54, 3rd Main Road, Defence Colony, 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar and is open between 11 am and 11 pm.
