Crops damaged as rain lashes State

Unseasonal rainfall lashed different parts of the State on Friday, bringing traffic to a halt and disrupting normal life.

Waterlogging was witnessed in low-lying areas of Belagavi. In many parts of the district, drains got clogged and overflowed on the roads.

Schoolchildren in particular, who were preparing to take part in Children’s Day programme in their respective schools, faced inconveniences.

Downpour continued for the entire day. It also rained briefly on Thursday night.

Harvested paddy and crops ready for harvest were damaged due to the rains in Khanapur taluk on Friday.

Also, farmers from Rumewadi, Ramgurwadi, Kodachwad, Hebbal and other villages suffered huge losses as the paddy got soaked in rain water.


Overcast conditions prevailing in the region for the past two days, made way to light and moderate showers in the region.

Light showers are expected to prevail in the region.

Several parts of Mysuru and Hassan districts recorded light to moderate showers on Friday.

However, despite the conditions, rainfall was sparse in Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell, maximum rainfall in Mysuru was recorded at Periyapatna, with 25 mm rainfall. Hunsur too recorded 24.5 mm rains during the day.

Rains were relatively sparse in Mysuru, Nanjangud and K R Nagar taluks, which received 16.5 mm, 9.5 mm and 9 mm rainfall, respectively, during the day.


Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed several parts of the district. Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Sagar, parts of Sorab received heavy rain for about an hour.

Hosanagar, Shikaripur, Thirthahalli also received moderate rain.

Most parts of the district witnessed cloudy weather throughout the day.

Several low-lying areas in Shivamogga city were flooded following the heavy rain. Motorists had a tough time as roads in the city were flooded.

North Karnataka

Rains continued to lash many parts of north Karnataka. There was rainfall on Thursday too. Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Belagavi, Haveri and Uttara Kannada districts received normal rainfall.

But it rained throughout the night in Dharwad district, including the twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad on Thursday.


In Hassan district, parts of Sakleshpur taluk recorded widespread rainfall of 24 mm during the day.

Rainfall was scattered in parts of Belur, Hassan and Alur taluks, which received 33.5 mm, 25 mm and 20.5 mm rainfall, respectively.
