Man suspects affair, kills wife, her lover

Suspecting his wife of having an affair with their landlady’s nephew, a 38-year-old man smothered his wife and then killed her lover in north-east Delhi’s Gokulpuri on Saturday. The accused is absconding, police said.

After murdering his wife Kavita, 35, Arun Chauhan called up his landlady’s nephew Aakash, 22, and asked him to come near a drain in the area on the pretext of searching for his missing son. He knifed Aakash over 10 times and fled, leaving him to die.

Arun and Kavita lived with their two children Pintu and Khushi in a rented house in Gokulpuri’s Ganga Vihar. Aakash, nephew of Arun’s landlady Babita, lived with his uncle in the neighbourhood.

Akash was recently selected for the post of head constable in Delhi Police’s communications department.

Late on Friday, Arun and Kavita had a heated argument over some unknown issues, but they settled the matter and went off to sleep.

“It appears that Arun smothered Kavita using a pillow while she was asleep. In the morning, when his children woke up, he told them that he had killed their mother,” said a police officer.

Arun told his daughter that he would go to jail so she should take care for her brother. He then left home.

Around 7.30 am, Arun called up Aakash and told him that his son had gone missing and he wanted his help to find him.

Aakash met Arun near Ganda Nala where he was stabbed multiple times.
Police were informed about Kavita’s murder when her daughter called up her uncle and told him about her mother’s murder.

While police were carrying out their investigation at Kavita’s house, they were informed about Aakash’s body lying near Ganda Nala.

Later, it was revealed that Aakash was Arun’s neighbour and then police realised that the murder has been committed by Arun, who was missing after the murders.
A case of murder has been registered with Gokulpuri police station.

Police are probing into the case from an extramarital affair angle and other possible motives. Several teams have also been formed to apprehend Arun.
