M'rashtra guv kept in dark by BJP

Last Updated 20 November 2014, 19:03 IST

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis may find himself in a tough spot as an RTI query has revealed that the BJP has not submitted the list of MLAs supporting it, including the names of its own MLAs, when it staked claim to form the government.

The RTI query was filed by social activist Anil Galgali who sought details regarding this from Raj Bhavan, the secretariat of Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao.

In the reply to the query, Ujjwala Dandekar, Under Secretary (Administration) and Public Information Officer to the Governor, stated that on 28/10/2014 at 6:40 pm, the letter signed by Devendra Fadnavis, Eknatrao Khadse-Patil, Vinod Tawde, Sudhir Mungantiwar and  Pankaja Munde and others was received by the Governor.

In the letter addressed to the Governor, it was informed that “the BJP being the single largest party, we request your honour to give us the opportunity to form the government”.

In a press statement, Galgali said: “Without disclosing its strength, without providing any list of supporting MLAs, the Devendra Fadnavis government proved its majority on the floor of the House by a voice vote. This only displays the smartness of this government but the people of Maharashtra are still unclear about the actual strength of this government.”

Galgali appealed that it is the moral duty of Fadnavis to release the list of MLAs, so the ordinary public can understand exactly how much support the government enjoys in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
