'Implement panel report on Panchayat Raj Act'

Gram Panchayats should pass a resolution urging the government to implement the recommendations submitted by a committee  constituted by the State government for bringing amendments to the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Act.

The resolution should be sent to Chief Minister and Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, said Gram Panchayat Hakkothaya Andolana State committee Vice President K A Yakub.

Speaking to mediapersons here, he said that the committee has recommended for bringing in changes in Panchayat Raj system. If the recommendations are implemented, then the gram panchayats can be strengthened and villages will be developed. The recommendations should be given nod in the Belgavi session.

Some of the recommendations are five-year term for Panchayat President and Vice President, special gram sabha for SC/ST, 30 per cent of the budgetary allocation of the State to the gram panchayats and others.
