2 killed as bus-truck collide at Nanthoor junction

Two persons lost their life and 10 persons suffered injuries following a bus - truck collision at Nanthoor junction here on Wednesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Umanath (20), a II year student at KPT and a resident of Ashwathpura in Moodbidre and Ganesh (26), a resident of Gurupur.

The accident occured when the truck plying from Malpe to Kerala carrying fish collided against the Naravi - Mangaluru bus at the Nanthoor junction. Both vehicles were said to be plying at high speed at the time of the mishap. Though Nanthoor is a main junction, both the drivers did not slowed down their vehicles, it is said. In fact, both vehicles turned turtle after colliding against each other. Both the deceased - Umanath and Ganesh were about to alight at Nanthoor and hence, both were standing near the door to alight. However, both were thrown out of the bus due to the impact of the mishap and the bus fell on them.

Soon after the mishap, a large number of people gathered at the spot and broke the glass of the bus to rescue the passengers trapped inside the bus.
Bus driver Ganesh Gowda, passengers Herald, Karthik, Umesh, Praveen, Kumar Gowda and Latheesh suffered serious injuries and have been admitted at different hospitals in City. On the other hand, several passengers including truck driver Nafruddin suffered minor injuries.

3 hour block
Following the mishap, traffic came to a standstill at Nanthoor junction and as a result, vehilces queued up at all sides.

A traffic cop, who stands at the circle regularly, was standing at the spot on Wednesday too.

However, he crossed the road a few seconds before the mishap. He was visibly shocked to see the bus turned turtle at the very spot where he was standing everyday.
Kadri police have registered a case.
