Ugrappa unhappy with HCorder on Made Snana

Last Updated 27 November 2014, 19:56 IST

Congress MLC V S Ugrappa on Thursday contended that the decision of the High Court to allow the practice of Made Snana was inhumane and derogatory for the lower castes.

Addressing the media, Ugrappa said that the practice was in contravention of the Constitution and was an offence under the Indian Penal Code.

“We have to see how fair the judiciary’s decision was, to allow the practice of Made Snana to continue. I will appeal to the State government to file a petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the verdict of the High Court,” said Ugrappa.

On being told that the Sullia block Congress in Dakshina Kannada district had been supporting the practice of Made Snana, Ugrappa said, “Now that it has come to our notice, we will take up the matter in the party.”
