State bags four awards in urban mobility

Karnataka bagged four of the 10 excellence awards in various categories in urban mobility areas at the Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo which concluded here on Friday.

The event was organised by the Institute of Urban Transport and the Ministry of Urban Development mainly to address transport-related issues in urban areas in the country.

Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo presented the awards to Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on the concluding day of the four-day conference.
Suprio appreciated the Karnataka state road transport undertakings’ efforts to adopt modern technology to provide better services to its commuters.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) won the ‘Award of Excellence’ in the category of ‘Best Intelligent Transport System Project’ for their intelligent transport system (ITS) initiative in Mysuru that presents a comprehensive approach to ITS covering vehicle location system, passenger information system and fare collection.

BMTC was awarded for the ‘Best City Bus Service’, while North-Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation received an award in the same category for innovation for small cities. The Bengaluru Traffic Police were honoured for their ‘Best Initiative in Improving Safety in Urban Transport’.
