The City police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure incident-free celebration of unveiling of Kannada thespian late Dr Rajkumar’s Memorial on Saturday.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar told mediapersons on Friday that invitees, around 6,000, will enter the venue through the back gate of the Kanteerava Studios, while general public have to follow the queue from the studio’s main entrance on the Sumanahalli Ring Road.

Alok Kumar said that around 1,000 policemen, besides two platoons of City Armed Reserve (CAR) and Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), have been deployed around Kanteerava Studios. The police have also made elaborate security arrangements for the cultural programme organised at the Palace Grounds in the evening.

“The unveiling of the memorial will start at 10.30 am and may take around 45 minutes at the Kanteerava Studios. The general public will be allowed inside the studio after the unveiling ceremony. However, 10 LCDs have been installed at different places around the studio for the people to view the unveiling ceremony. We will be out carrying anti-sabotage checks around the venue and 40 metal detectors, both hand-held and framed, will be used to screen the visitors,” Alok Kumar said.

At the venue, the security will be supervised by four DCPs with 45 police inspectors and other policemen. Police said that public visiting the studio can park their vehicles on the road side from the studio till Sumanahalli bridge on the Ring Road.

This apart, heavy and medium vehicles can be parked at the Koolinagar Ground on the Ring Road, he said. Alok Kumar requested public not to carry crackers, inflammable items and alcohol inside the Palace Grounds for the cultural programme in the evening.
Parking arrangements

“The public can enter the grounds through Gate-4 at the Amanullah gate side opposite TV Tower. While, parking has been arranged at Gate-3, people have to walk till Gate-4. Besides, a help desk will be set up between Gate-4 and Amanullah Gate,” he said.

Rajkumar’s son Raghavendra has requested fans to assist the police in maintaining law and order. “Appaji's (Rajkumar) demise on April 12 in 2006 witnessed violent incidents. The body was taken away by the fans before we could reach home in Sadashivanagar. We later pleaded with fans to allow us perform the last rites. I request fans to co-operate with the police in arrangements they have made in the interest of safety,” he said.
