It’s not everyday that one sees a large group of students from a government school travel by Namma Metro. As many as 28 students of the government higher primary school in Deepanjalinagar were taken on a joyride on the Metrorail recently.

They set out at 8 am to take part in a tour scheme launched by Bangalore Metrorail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for school and college students, aimed at educating them about the workings of the Metro.

Akash, a class 5 student, was constantly staring outside the window in awe, along with the rest of his schoolmates, as the Metrorail zipped past Halasuru en route the Trinity Metro station.

“It is a very good experience. I learnt about how the Metro runs on electricity and even saw videos on how the whole system works. It was fun,” said Akash, when asked about the trip.

Shivaraj, a student of class 4, could not hold back his excitement. “I enjoyed this trip very much,” he exclaimed.

“The tour scheme is gradually becoming popular,” said BMRCL Managing Director Vasanth Rao. Around 500 students have availed of the opportunity and another 25 institutions have already expressed interest,” he said.

When asked about the tour on the other Metro line from Peenya to Mantri Mall, Rao said, “Only three trips have been undertaken on this route. We usually take students on the Baiyappanahalli-MG Road route as there are more facilities there.”
