Councillors to focus on issues of child safety

Last Updated 02 December 2014, 02:21 IST

Municipal councillors on Monday said although they have been working for providing children with better school education, there is a need to address the issue of safety of kids aged under six, especially those from urban poor settlement colonies.

Legislators promised to work towards implementing the existing schemes like Anganwadi center-cum-creches and other government programmes.

Adequate space and infrastructure should be provided for creches during the planning of resettlement colonies, said Ravinder Gupta, Deputy Mayor of North Delhi.

M M Vidyarthi, member of Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights said the master plan should also have provisions to keep spaces where institutions for the all-round development of children can be built.

Experts said sometimes parents’ negligence and lack of awareness have also led to mishaps. So programmes must be initiated to spread awareness among parents.
