Soon, schools may have to devote one hour to observe ‘Hepatitis Hour’ every month to prevent cases of hepatitis.

Officials of the Delhi government said much more needs to be done to create awareness on Hepatitis prevention among school children and the general population while speaking at the inauguration of the 17th  Hepatitis Day event at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS).

It needs to be taken up on a “mission mode”, said S C L Das, Secretary, Health Department. Maintaining high standards of hygiene can help eliminate chances of contracting communicable diseases, said LG Najeeb Jung.

Dr S K Sarin, Director, ILBS, said that the treatment of Hepatitis C with a new drug should be subsidised for the middle class.
