Flaying the Opposition BJP leaders’ decision to picket the State legislature session that will be held in Belagavi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the BJP leaders did not believe in the democratic system.

Crores of rupees were spent on the construction of the Suvarna Soudha. Probably the BJP leaders are unaware of the fact that the winter session is being held in Belagavi to solve the problems of North Karnataka people.

The chief minister said a final decision will be taken on the recommendations made by poet Channaveera Kanavi-led committee on the proposed modification of the ‘Nada Geethe,’ only after eliciting people’s feedback.

It was quite common to receive opinion both in favour and against the recommendations made by any committee. It would be wrong on the part of the government to take a
decision, without considering people’s opinion.

‘Scared of Veerappan’

After listening to tales of harassment faced by matinee idol Rajkumar in the hands of sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, none dared to visit Male Mahadeshwara Hills, said Siddaramaiah.

“The intelligence bureau had tipped me that Veerappan was planning to kidnap me. Scared, I never came here,” he said. After 15 years, the chief minister on Friday visited the Hills to officially inaugurate the Shri Male Mahadeshwara Swamy Development Authority and it was also his first visit after becoming the chief minister.

Siddaramaiah recalled that he used to visit the place along with his parents as a child.
“I shaved my head twice, as an offering to deity Madappa. Since 1998, he had not visited the Hills, and due to work pressure, had not visited after being sworn in as the chief minister.”
