Villagers demand action against docs

Last Updated 06 December 2014, 20:00 IST

Following the death of a pregnant woman after delivering a baby, her relatives and residents of Javagal, in Arsikere taluk, staged a protest demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, here, on Saturday, alleging that the negligent attitude of three doctors had caused the death of a pregnant woman.

The agitators demanded severe action against the doctors — Dr Manjunath, Dr Lokesh and Dr Suma — of the District Government Hospital. They said, Latha (24), wife of Manjunath, a resident of Javagal, had been shifted to the Hassan District Hospital on December 4 from Javagal Primary Health Centre for delivery as the case was complicated.

“The doctors conducted a Caesarean section on the woman immediately after admission, without either conducting preliminary tests or treating her for any possible complications.

Even after operating for the Caesarean section, the doctors did not take any precautionary measures. Instead, they referred the patient to a private hospital in Mysuru, to conceal their mistakes. When we reached the hospital in Mysuru, the doctors told us that Latha had died four hours prior to reaching the hospital,” they said.

Hassan Police have registered a case.
