Seasonal changes may sometimes trigger allergies of the eyes. But there are ways to keep your eyes safe in winters.

Keep your house safe from allergens: If you have allergy from dust and pollen, make sure you keep the windows and doors of your home closed to prevent contact. Use air conditioning to keep these allergens at bay.

Also remove carpets from rooms, as they might trigger dust allergy of the eye. Keep your blankets and beddings clean and dust-free.

Control mold: Mold is a fungus that often grows in houses, thriving on humid and wet conditions. It often causes different kinds of allergies of the skin as well as eyes. Make sure your house is kept dry and dehumidified.

Use eye drops to prevent dryness: Chilly winds and dry weather can sometimes cause excessive dryness of the eyes. This in turn may lead to
inflammation and itchiness. Use an eye drop after consulting your doctor.

Use protective glasses: It’s a myth that we are not affected by UV rays on a cloudy day. Wear glasses with Eye - Sun Protection Factor (ESPF) for protection.

Avoid smoke: People tend to smoke indoors in winters as it is freezing
outside. Cigarette smoke can irritate the eye and trigger an allergy. If you are allergic to smoke, declare your home a strict ‘no smoking’ zone. Also, prevent exposure to diesel exhaust from vehicles by keeping your car
windows up all the time.

Clean and care: Don’t touch your eyes with dirty hands .Wash your hands regularly and ensure those around you do the same. Avoid
sharing towels, handkerchiefs and
eye cosmetics with others.
