Akash succumbs to critical head injuries

Survived two heart attacks, but the third one proved fatal

Three-year-old Akash, who was admitted to Vanivilas Hospital in the City, died on Friday morning after he failed to respond to treatment.

Akash, a resident of Koramangala, was admitted to hospital in a critical condition after he had fallen off a two-storey building.

His family had a tough time as they had to take him to three different hospitals before they could get a ventilator facility for him.

Earlier efforts
Initially, the child was rushed to Nimhans from where he was shifted to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health. “We were able to get the ventilator only at the Vanivilas Hospital late in the night,” Palani, the child’s father, said.

Doctors at Vanivilas said that they tried their best to revive the child but in vain as Akash had severe head injuries.

“He had two cardiac arrests and both times we were able to successfully revive him. But the third time we could not and he passed away at 7.30 am,” said Dr Gangadhar Belavadi, medical superintendent, Vanivilas Hospital.

8-yr-old boy critical
The condition of another boy, whose parents had to endure a harrowing time in getting the ventilator facility, is critical. The parents of eight-year-old Anand have taken their child home on Friday evening.

“He (Anand) is suffering from Viral Encephalitis and has high fever but his parents were adamant that they want to take him home and he was discharged against medical advice,” said a doctor.

Woman mowed down
An employee of a private firm was mowed down by a water tanker near Rupena Agrahara bus stand in Madiwala traffic police limits on Friday.

S Renuka, 25, a resident of Viveknagar and an HR manager with a private firm, was returning home from office at around 3.50 pm, when her two-wheeler hit a speeding water tanker near the bus stand. She was tossed up in the air, fell down and came under the wheels of the water tanker. Renuka died on the spot of massive injuries, said the police.

The police have arrested the tanker driver and seized the vehicle.
