Rain lashes TN for third day

Last Updated 12 December 2014, 19:02 IST

Normal life in Tamil Nadu was affected for the third day, as heavy rain triggered by a low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal pounded the state.

The local Met department predict more rains for the next 24 hours under the influence of the low-pressure area.

“A trough of low pressure over South West Bay of Tamil Nadu off Sri Lanka, which has turned into a well-marked low pressure area, slightly moved in the westerly direction,” a senior Met department official said here on Friday.

“Under its influence heavy rain is likely to occur at most places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 24 hours”, he added.

He said the low pressure might turn into a deep depression and would likely move further in westerly direction. Heavy rain which continued to lash the state since Tuesday night severely affected life, especially in coastal Tirunelveli, Cuddalore and Chennai.

M’rashtra damage
The famous Alphonso mangoes of Ratnagiri and grapes of Nashik would be dearer and onion many bring tears again as unseasonal rain in coastal Konkan belt and hailstorm in Khandesh region — over the last two days — has damaged the crops. The heavy rain  has brought the farming community of Maharashtra to yet another crisis.
