'Best arecanut farmer' award

B A Narayan from Mavina Hithalu has won 'Best arecanut farmer' award, instituted by All India Federation Trust, at Kozhikode recently. The award carried a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and citation. The award was distributed by All India Research Agricultural Foundation Chairman Swaminathan. The award is given for a farmer who fetches income at low cost of production.

Narayan in his 3.18 acre land grows over 26 varieties of  crops including arecanut, coffee, pepper, dairy farming, apiculture, cardamom, banana, coconut, cloves, nutmeg, ginger and yam without using chemical fertilisers.

By making use of machineries, he saves time and energy. Four scientists from Delhi and other states had visited his farm and recommended his name for the award.
