Decision on hike in salary of doctors within a week: Khader

'Doctors on contract serving for three years will be regularised'

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader has said that the State government has decided to enhance the salary of the doctors working on contract basis. At present, they are getting Rs 28,000 per month. It has been recommended to increase it to Rs 45,000. The proposal is before the finance department.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that the government will regularise the services of doctors, after three years of service. The proposal of increasing the salary of MBBS doctors from Rs 52,000 to Rs 70,000 is also before the finance department and decision will be taken within a week.

The centre has given its nod to increase the salary of doctors working on contract basis under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

The minister said that the health department is thinking of changing the shift of doctors at taluk hospitals, to help the general public.

The duty timing may be extended till 4.30 pm. Meanwhile, he said that if doctors’ association is ready to start co-operative hospitals, then the government is ready to support them by providing infrastructure.

On Healthizon app that was launched in Bengaluru, Khader said that the BBMP has received more than 100 complaints and many of the problems have been solved. 

On Yettinahole
The Minister said that a meeting of various organisation leaders will be convened after discussing the issue with District-in-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai, in January.

The proposal on Yettinahole project was passed in the Assembly during the previous BJP government’s tenure. People from eight districts are demanding the implementation of the project. To a query on plan to use water from Netravathi for industrial purpose in the name of irrigation, the minister said that he will discuss the issue with Minister for Irrigation and ensure that the project will not affect the people of Dakshina Kannada. Encroachment of lakes in Kolar has been cleared.

Chellagatta drinking water project is under consideration. Once the approval is given, work will commence and will be completed in six months.
