What has Shubha Punja been up to? After Thakath one has not seen much of her on the screen. But the actress who took time off her busy schedule says that the year passed by in shooting, rehearsals and shaping up. “For the last one month, I have been on a very strict diet and have slimmed down a lot,” says the actress who won the best supporting actress award for Moggina Manasu.

The movie was very women-centric, but even before she could get typecast Shubha decided to try out different genres and roles. In fact she also does not have any qualms when it comes to the leading man. “I want to act with every hero. Old or new, I don’t mind, as long as I am given an opportunity to showcase my talent,” she explains.

Currently, the damsel has completed shoot for two movies, Preethi Hungama and Golmaal. One being a romantic comedy and the other an out-an-out comedy, Shubha says, that it’s a genre she has never ventured into before. “When it comes to comedy, timing is everything. Both the movies were very challenging for me. So I took my time on them and rehearsed a lot,” she says. Without divulging too much about her characters in both the movies she says, “Preeti Hangama has a well etched out character for me. I got more scope to perform and Golmaal is a refreshing movie as it really shows off my comic sense.”

With many mainstream actresses donning glamourous avatars and even ready to do item numbers for their films, Shubha feels there is no need for her to that as of now. “I want to get into roles where I can perform. I think I will be ready to do an item number only when I am a little more established and have a foothold in the industry, till then I prefer to stay away from them,” she concludes.
