UN irks India as it refers to 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed as 'Sahib'

The respect shown by the United Nations Security Council while referring to, the 2008 Mumbai terrorists attack mastermind, Hafiz Saeed has irked the Indian government.

A letter, signed by Security Council Committee Chair Gary Quinlan, has referred to the designated global terrorist as Hafiz Mohammad 'Sahib'.

"The letter written at a time when LeT modules are targeting India and Hafiz Saeed is spewing venom against India clearly shows the manner in which members of the UN Sanctions Committee is treating such a burning issue. Little wonder that the mechanism has not had the desired result," the government sources were quoted as saying by India Today

Irked by the approach in treating sanctions against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder, Hazif Saeed, the Narendra Modi-government has reportedly sought a clarification from the Security Council on the issue.

Hafiz Saeed-led LeT terrorists carried out the worst terror attack in the country's history in 2008 across Mumbai and killed at least 166 people. The United States has also announced a $10 million bounty on him.
