Students turn to M'rashtra for studies

Our children have to trudge 15 kms

The State government however, has always maintained that it is committed to the development of this border area. How effective has been its implementation will only be known when one visits these parts.

Though the government has given importance to education, the children of many villages in the taluk have been deprived of high school education.

In the taluk’s Hangaraga (B) village one can study till the eighth standard in the Marathi medium government school. The 35 to 40 students who are studying here, however, are in a fix as they do not know how to pursue their further studies.

“Our children have to go to a distance of 15 km to Hokrana. Otherwise they have to come to Aurad taluk centre which is about 20 kms distance, Hence for many of the parents it has become inevitable to get an admission in Shilavani school in Maharashtra,” said Gram Panchayat member Peeraji Pule.

The parents are worried about the children’s future as they are forced to study eighth standard in Karnataka and ninth and tenth standard in Maharashatra.

The same condition prevails in the taluk’s Chikli village. The villagers have been demanding for the sanction of a high school since last three years.

Chikli Gram Panchayat member Gulab Dastgir and Hangarga GP member Peeraji though have submitted memoranda to the Education department it has not borne any result.

They have demanded that the high school should be opened from this academic year, atleast
