A 22-year-old man was killed on Thursday night by the brother of a girl whom he had allegedly molested earlier this year.

The alleged murderer was arrested when his mother forced him to accompany her to the police station and “seek forgiveness”.

The old woman herself was at the receiving end of the victim’s vulgar abuses when she had tried to save her daughter from molestation, police said on Friday.

The 25-year-old accused had earlier spent some time in jail for assaulting the victim Wasim for the alleged molestation. He was out on bail and was on the lookout for the right opportunity to seek revenge, said police.

The opportunity came on Thursday night when Wasim was sitting at a cable shop in north-east Delhi’s Nand Nagri area.

The girl’s brother spotted him and began hurling verbal abuses. Wasim challenged him, but his life was immediately cut short as the accused pulled out a knife and slit his throat.

“The accused went home after the murder and narrated the incident to his mother saying he had finally taken revenge for the humiliation she and her daughter had gone through. His mother forced him to accompany her to the police station saying he would be forgiven if he confessed,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

The accused, however, only told police that he had assaulted Wasim with a knife. He was held at the police station while a team was sent to the spot.

He was arrested as soon as police found that Wasim had been murdered. The knife used in the crime and his bloodstained clothes have been recovered.

Wasim had allegedly molested the sister of the accused in March this year. When the accused learnt of it, he allegedly beat up Wasim mercilessly.

Wasim had filed a police complaint upon which the accused was arrested and sent to jail for a brief while. The enmity between the two had continued ever since.
