Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim has directed the officials concerned to conduct the heath check up of Endosulfon victims at their places, once in a month. The DC also felt for a need to establish a day care centre for Endo victims, with the help of NGOs.

Chairing a review meeting of Endosulfan victims’ rehabilitation at his office on Wednesday, he said that the doctors in Primary Health Centres should go to the places of bedridden victims in their PHC limits and conduct the check up.

Expressing displeasure over the treatment of Endo victims, the DC said that the victims should be treated according to their seriousness.

DK Zilla Endosulfan Virodhi Horata Samithi President Peer Muhammed Sahib said that the two day care centres in Kokkada and Koila are not working well and most of the government funds are going for vehicles and salaries of employees. About 40 inmates are treated at each centre and Rs 65,000 is spent on the vehicles and Rs 49,600 is spent for the salary of staff. Only Rs 21,500 is utilised for children’s food, he said.
‘Form society for day care centre’

The DC and ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni said that with the coordination of destitute centre and a NGO, a day care centre could be opened, provided there are 3,000 partons in the society which is eligible to handle the responsibility of the day care centre.

Endosulfan Victims Rehabilitation Officer (in-charge) Dr Arun said that the identification of Endo victims is being done at district Wenlock hospital and 3107 victims have been identified so far. Out of these, 3040 have been provided with identity cards and 2615 were eligible for stipend. A total of 13 are being given cashless treatment at multi-speciality hospitals. Out of these, 1933 are with disabilities and 38 victims have died during nine months and among these 23 victims were receiving stipends. Six cases are under investigation.

A proposal for mobile health unit and physiotherapy unit at Primary Health Centres, has been sent along with a proposal to upgrade Kokkada PHC to Community Health Centre. At present, there is only one physiotherapist for the district, Dr Arun said.
