Simplicity’, artistic experiments in fabric, by Deepika Dorai will be displayed at Bimba The Art Ashram, Basavanagudi till January 15.

Deepika has created an array of attire for people of all ages and walks of life with a rare, unique sensibility. Simple fabrics like handloom cottons, khadi, malkha oruna veg-dyed organic cotton and kora silk yarn that is handwoven into masterpieces and wool, jute are transformed. With each, hand-picked fabric, she creates one-of-a-kind attire with classy cuts and textures .

Each attire and accessory is treated like a painting in various shapes, colours and motifs through handmade processes. On display, you have clothes and accessories for men, women and children. ​

For women, there are ‘kurtas’, ‘lehngas’, ‘pavadais’, ‘dupattas’, skirts, stoles, shawls, dogris, salwars, nehru jackets, stylish jute footwear and for men, there are Nehru collar shirts, ‘kurtas’, jute footwear including chappals and shoes, purses, wallets, for girls, ‘lehngas’ and ‘pavadais’ are there apart from others.

Unusual beauty is rediscovered in tiny bits and pieces. They are made into beautiful bags, purses, cushion coverlets, ‘thoranams’, coasters, buttons and the remaining fabric is shredded to fill cushions to make up the wide range of aesthetic creations.

     One can even walk around and experience the making of these or catch her at work and share ideas at Bimba The Art Ashram.
