She was addressing the media persons here on Tuesday.

The officer said that it has come to the notice of the administration that sand is being transported without permission. Measures to check such practices will be taken after a discussion with the Mines and Geology Department Officials.

A temporary task force has been constituted at the local level in co-ordination with the revenue department officials to check the illegal transport. Measures are taken to check the illegal transport during the night and to deposit the confiscated sand with the Mines and Geology Department, the officer said.

The authorities concerned have already been informed of the need to post a Mines and Geology officer in the taluk. It would be of great advantage if a person with fair knowledge of the local geography is  posted to the taluk, he said.

At least 90 land survey numbers are identified where sand quarrying is carried out in various villages of the taluk. Proposal has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner for taking possession of the land concerned, she said.

A temporary check-post put up by the Mines and Geology department near Tippaganahalli   has been neglected due to the shortage of staff, the officer said. Circle Inspector B L Srinivasmurthy, Mines and Geology department officer Veerabhadraiah, PSI Krishnappa and others were present.
