CM launches Lansdowne works

Finally, the restoration works of the Lansdowne Building was launched, in Mysuru, on Sunday. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah performed the ground breaking ceremony, giving a push to the works taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore.

Speaking to media, Siddaramaiah said, the works have been given the administrative approval, with equal number of Rs 3 crore earmarked for renovation of the heritage structure and other works, including underground drainage, electrification and also surroundings of the building.

The required funds were allocated from the Rs 100 crore special grant to the MCC in State budget of 2014-15.

The chief minister said, another Rs 9 crore has been set aside for the restoration of another heritage structure in the heart of the city, the Devaraja Market.

The engineers have been asked to prepare an action plan, following which the necessary procedures will be fulfilled.

Along with the project details, regarding the Lansdowne building and its key features, the day (August 2012) that claimed four lives — including two brothers — was recounted with the help of photographs put up in front of the defunct building.

Following the tragic incident, the tenants have shifted to 50-odd temporary shops opposite the building, facilitating the restoration works.
