Missing ranks: Confusions galore

Last Updated 25 May 2009, 18:12 IST

Confused and clueless, parents and students stood outside the Karnataka Education Authority (KEA) looking for someone responsible to provide them with answers.

While in some cases the reason given for not allotting ranks was “under-age”, in other cases there was no explanation given at all. A large number of ISC and CBSE students have not received ranks, but the list also included a number of PUC students. However, the authorities have made it clear that there can be no argument where the reason has been specified. The KEA Executive Director S G Hegde told Deccan Herald, “If they are under-age, then there is no argument. The conclusion has been drawn from the documents submitted by them.”

He said, ISC and CBSE students who have submitted their marks have been designated ranks. “We are not responsible for students who have not submitted their marks. If there are other reasons they can always contact our office,” Hegde said.

Seventeen-year-old Sanjana R has secured a total of 87 in CET, but she has not been assigned a rank and no reason has been specified. Similarly Wafa Kaynath of Mount Carmel College too has not been assigned a rank and the reason that was specified in the official website was under-age. “I am 17 years and 9 months old, but I don’t know why they have stated that I am under-age,” a baffled Wafa said. Her father Syed was furious. He said, “If she was under-age, why did they allow her to write the test in the first place?”
