Following a complaint against Nazarbad Police, for delaying the arrest of the accused in a case of rape bid on a woman in the city recently, Upa Lokayukta Subhash B Adi, on Sunday, directed the police to speed up the pace of investigation.

Adi, who summoned Police Commissioner M A Saleem and Nazarbad Police Inspector K C Poovaiah as part of the inquiry, at Government Guest House, here on Saturday, is understood to have directed the police to arrest the accused at the earliest.

The police personnel explained to the Upa Lokayukta that initially they had some tough time in understanding the veracity of the case, as the victim came out with contrasting versions, about the place of occurrence and also about the incident, till the statement was eventually recorded on January 9.
The victim, aged about 28 years, was allegedly abducted by a gang of three unidentified persons on January 8 between 8 pm and 10 pm, after waylaying her car near the police commissioner’s office.
