Constable held for throwing minor from roof after rape attempt

Last Updated 18 January 2015, 18:17 IST

A police constable threw down a minor from the third floor of the building inside Ujhani police station in Budaun, about 300 kilometres from here, after she resisted his attempts to rape her.

The victim, a class XII student, suffered injuries to her head, arms and legs and was admitted to the hospital in the neighbouring Bareilly district. Reports said the incident, which took place on Thursday, came to light on Saturday when the victim regained consciousness and narrated her ordeal to her parents.

The UP government suspended the cop, Gaurav Tytler, and arrested him after a case was lodged. The inhcharge of Ujhani Kotwali, Ram Surat Yadav, was also suspended.

Sources said the police initially tried to hush up the incident by “forcing” the victim’s mother to lodge a complaint against her uncle. They swung into action only after the girl broke her silence on the truth, resulting in intervention from senior officials.

The police said the cop was known to the victim’s family. He was also active on social networking.

Sources said Gaurav called the girl to his room in the campus on some pretext and tried to sexually assault her.

The minor, however, fought hard to resist him. Apparently irked by her stubbornness, the cop threw her down from the third floor.  The victim was rushed to hospital by passers by. A few days ago, two cops posted at the Musajhag police station had allegedly raped a minor inside the station and are currently in jail for the crime.
