A student was killed following a fight between his college mates over a mobile SIM card, in Hassan, on Tuesday.

The deceased student is Prithvi, a first year PU student of St Joseph’s College, here. He is the son of Vishwanath, hailing from Kushalnagar, Kodagu district. On January 16, Prithvi who left for college at 6.30 am did not return, and his mobile phone was switched off. Vishwanath had lodged a missing complaint with the police.

It is alleged that two students of the same college had a fight over a mobile SIM card with Prithvi.  In a fit of rage, the students are said to have pushed Prithvi from the second floor of the college building, which killed him on the spot.

The students hid the body behind the college. They later returned in the evening and dumped the body into a gobar gas tank, according to police.

After three days, when the students came back to the gobar gas tank, they saw the body floating, and they themselves informed the school head. The murder came to light only after the police grilled the students. A case has been registered at the Pension Mohalla police station.
