Cop found hanging in bathroom

Her husband also CRPF constable, will be quizzed

A 24-year-old woman CRPF constable allegedly hanged herself in a bathroom of the force’s hostel in west Delhi on Thursday. Police have recovered no suicide note, but suspect she was suffering from depression over family issues.

Victim Laxmi Bai’s husband Rakesh, 25, too is a constable with Central Reserve Police Force and was undergoing training at Gurgaon.

Laxmi was staying at the third battalion of the CRPF in Vikaspuri with other women personnel.

The suicide was discovered by her colleague who visited the washroom on the third floor of the building around 1 am on Thursday.

She knocked on a bathroom but found it locked from inside.

“When repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, she woke her other colleagues. Together, they broke open the door and found the victim hanging from an iron rod in the bathroom’s ventilator. She had used a dupatta to hang herself,” a police officer said.
Police do not suspect foul play.

Police received a call around 1.30 am and a team arrived at the spot to bring down the body.

It was sent to a nearby hospital but doctors declared her brought dead.

A sub-divisional magistrate is investigating the case as Laxmi had married Rakesh only a year ago.

Rakesh will be interrogated about the relationship he shared with Laxmi and whether he was aware of any issue troubling her, police said.

Some of Laxmi’s colleagues have told police that she appeared depressed, but they were unable to give any possible reason behind it.

Police said they have learnt that she was under some medication, but it is yet to be ascertained what illness she was being treated for. Her family has not pointed their fingers at anyone so far.

The couple hailed from Churu city of Rajasthan. The woman had joined the force in 2010 and was posted at CRPF’s Jharoda Kalan camp.
