Tharoor shows he is not all praise for PM

The third day of the Jaipur Literature Festival saw Congress parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor reading excerpts from his book “India Shastra”, disproving party members’ contentions that he only has words of praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Congress MP’s new book is a compilation of essays on various political, diplomatic, historical and cultural issues in India and the world. During the session, Tharoor questioned Modi’s game plan for sustainable growth.

“The gap between articulation and implementation in his (the prime minister’s) case remains wide enough to drive India through a tide,” he said. The Congress leader asserted that the prime minister must act on the promises he made to the people.

He added that there was a need for Modi to step up and take decisions forward, which he said was what the country as whole lacked.

“Implementation of good ideas has long been a national weakness and if Modi can change this, he would earn a place in history.”
