Last Updated 07 January 2010, 17:43 IST

Briefing media persons in the City on Thursday, Eshwarappa said that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has agreed to purchase power if the need arises.

Eshwarappa had recently ruled out the possibility of purchasing power this year. Last year State government had purchased power worth Rs 3,000 crore from outside. The minister had said that State government will instead invest the amount to generate additional power this year.

Replying to a query over protests against irregular power supply, the minister said that “it forms the responsibility of the Government to ensure regular power supply for students during exams and for irrigation pump sets.” He said that electricity supply companies had incurred huge losses last year due to power purchase.

A meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, to discuss the power crises in the State will be held by the end of this month. “Issues like quantum of power purchase, financial burden from the same and sector wise allocation of the power generated at present and schedule of load shedding will be discussed”, he said.
