'People know the work I have done'

A political science graduate, Anil Sharma has risen from Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of BJP to become a first-time MLA in 2013 elections.

He scraped through in the last elections in RK Puram defeating Shazia Ilmi by a meagre 326 votes. This time, he hopes to repeat the feat with a bigger margin. Sharma talks to Shemin Joy.

You are the sitting MLA. What are your campaign points?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing a good job and the people acknowledge that. We will talk to people about his work in the campaign and hope that it will help us in this election.

Along with this, I will also inform people about the work I did in the constituency after I was elected. I had managed to ensure water supply in many villages.

For women security, I had got sanctioned installation of CCTVs. I am getting good response from voters when I raise these issues. It is positive for BJP.

You have got just around one year to work. It could be argued that one year may not be long enough to implement your ideas. What are the problems you saw in this constituency?

One of my priorities will be to tackle the water problem in Munirka village and Basant Gaon. There is need to build more community centres in the area. Earlier, in the villages, money was not spent from MPLAD or MLA fund.

Do you think that whatever you have done in the last one year would be enough to convince voters?

One cannot say he/she can win with one year’s work. People have understood the work I have done in the last one year. In this time, I have done whatever
I could and I am hopeful that people will appreciate it.

AAP’s candidate is Pramila Tokas. Are you concerned that she may corner Jat votes and make the fight tighter?

I am confident all sections will vote for me. Even the Jat-dominated villages are with us. We regularly interact with all sections of people.

Nobody has a problem. We are getting support from all villages.

There are claims that government employees are not happy with the NDA government.

It is not true. There were concerns about retirement age but the government has clarified that there is no such move.

If somebody is hellbent on spreading lies, you cannot stop them.
