Social, educational status: Pilot survey at CM's native

Survey at Mayor's ward from Feb 9

State Backward Classes Commission that is preparing to take up a survey on the social and educational status from April 1, will be launching the pilot survey at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s native Siddaramanahundi and Ward No 20 at Saraswatipuram in Mysuru represented by Mayor R Lingappa in the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) council from February 9.

Presiding over the preliminary meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Thursday, Commission Chairman Kantharaj said the survey on an experimental basis will help correct the lapses if any, ahead of the full time exercise in April.

The enumerators will have to fill Form-3 after collecting the answers for 55 questionnaires from the residents. The questionnaire comprises details pertaining to caste, sub-caste, Aadhaar card, marital status, religion among others. It has been prepared in a simple manner to enable the residents who will be handed over a handbook on the same during the survey.

The Commission has prepared a list of 1,357 castes, that is neither final nor official. It is only after the survey, an accurate statistics can be obtained, witnessing either an increase or decrease in the number of total castes existing in the State. In the case of absence of code for a particular caste in the handbook, new code will be given after the survey.

Kantharaj directed the enumerators to visit every household and collect information and signature from the family head. Else, the Commission will initiate action against such enumerators. The enumerators have been advised against collecting information in groups. Only after collecting the information should the enumerators fill the form using the respective codes.

Kantharaj also sought information on enumerators and the appointment of supervisors.
