Couple killed in road mishap

Their 4-yr-old daughter survived with minor injuries

A couple was killed, while their four-year-old daughter survived with minor injuries, after the motorcycle they were travelling on was hit by a four-wheeler near Lingadevarakoppal under Yelwal police limits, here, on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Phanindra Kumar (39) and his wife Shruthi (34), residents of Vidyaranyapuram in the city.

A businessman by profession, Kumar along with his wife and daughter Nischita had gone to a wedding ceremony on the outskirts of Mysuru. 

The three were returning to the city, when a Tata Sumo allegedly hit the two-wheeler from the rear side, before running over the couple. The couple who suffered severe injuries in the incident died on their way to the hospital.  Following the incident, the police have seized the four-wheeler and arrested its driver identified as Nagaraj.

Youth ends life

A 21-year-old youth committed suicide by coming under a moving train behind the Pavilion Grounds in the city on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Chandan (21), son of Chandrashekar, a head constable at Virajpet police station in Kodagu district. Chandan was a second year BA student at Maharaja’s College here.

He is suspected to have ended his life by coming under the Mysuru-Nanjangud train in the early hours. The identity was traced with the help of student ID card. Railway police have registered a case.

Senior citizen hurt

A 78-year-old man was injured after he allegedly slipped off from the wooden plank covering the ongoing footpath works on Sayyaji Rao road, in the city, on Thursday. 

The man, identified as V Rajashetty, is a resident of Gokulam third stage here. The incident occurred around 1 pm, after Rajashetty, a retired employee of  the Regional Transport Office (RTO), had gone to the bank on the busy commercial hub in the heart of the city. 

Following the fall, Rajashetty sustained injuries on the right part of his forehead, causing severe swelling. He underwent a CT scan at K R Hospital later. 

According to Rajashetty’s son Kumar, the incident occurred after his father came out of the bank, where he had gone to draw his pension.

“The moment my father stepped on the wooden plank put across the trench dug for the footpath works, he lost balance and fell off, resulting in the injuries,” said Kumar. 

Kumar said, a complaint has been lodged at Devaraja police station. However, the police said they haven’t received any such complaint.
