N'gud Dodda Jatra: ADC fixes roles to officials

Additional Deputy Commissioner M S Archana has instructed officials concerned to make necessary arrangements in advance for the Nanjangud Sri Srikanteshwara Swamy Dodda Jatra scheduled to be held from March 25 to April 5 in the district.

Presiding over the preparatory meeting at her office in the city recently, the officer said the officials have to discharge their duties in an effective manner without giving room for any complaints. 

As per the schedule, ‘Pancha Maharathotsava’, the highlight of the jatra will be held on April 1, while ‘Theppotsava’ (coracle fest) will be held on April 3. Ahead of the main event, ‘Srikantamudi Utsava’ will be held on March 29.

The officer directed the Police department to take care of security, traffic and parking arrangements, while the local authorities were asked to asphalt the road and take up cleanliness measures on the same, as the ‘rathas’ (cars) will be taken through the same roads.  

The Health department was directed to open temporary health centres, besides deputing adequate staff, including doctors and medical assistants. With large number of devotees expected to turn up from in and outside the district, priority should be given to cleanliness around the temple to check the spread of epidemics.

The Cauvery Neeravari Nigama Limited was entrusted with the task of releasing more water to Kapila river and Hullahalli canal at Nanjangud during the period, to enable the devotees take bath in the same.

Nanjangud taluk panchayat authorities have to take care of temporary water arrangements, toilet and changing room facilities, while Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (Cesc) has to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Cesc should also install street lights at the required places and clear the horizontal power lines on the procession route as a precautionary measure. The lines have to be restored soon after the culmination of the religious ceremony.
