National taekwondo meet from today

The gold and silver medalists of the event will get an opportunity to be part of the national camp being held at New Delhi, according to Harish Kumar, President of the Taekwondo Federation of India. (TFI)

“The camp is primarily to prepare for the Asian Games in November,” said Harish.
“All the medalists will also be eligible for the first ever India Open Championship to be held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore in May,” he added.

A busy year lies ahead of the sport, with the SAF Games in Bangaldesh (Jan-Feb), World Junior Championship in Mexico (March) as well as the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore (August) lined up for the coming months.

In the Bangalore championship, 300 men and 250 women from 32 state units and five central government organisations will take part.

Competitions will be held in eight weight categories for men and women.
Categories: Men: 54 kg, 58 kg, 63 kg, 68 kg, 74 kg, 80 kg, 87 kg, Over 87 kg.
Women: 46 kg, 49 lg, 53 kg, 57, kg, 62 kg, 67 kg, 73 kg, Over 73 kg.

Harish re-elected
Meanwhile, Harish was re-elected TFI president during the AGM held at the Sree Kanteerava stadium.

Executive council members: Harish Kumar (President), Harshavardhan Prasad (Vice President), Raj Kakati (Vice President), RD Mangueshkar (Vice President), T Praveen Kumar (Secretary General), P Selvamani (Joint Secretary), Ajay Kumar (Joint Secretary), CK Sharma (Joint Secretary), Vinayak N Gaikwad (Treasurer).
